Over 600 athletes are participating in the maiden Ikeja Games organised by the Chairman Finance Committee of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. James Abiodun Faleke, in partnership with the National Institute for Sports (NIS).
The first young discovery of the Ikeja Games’ maiden edition is 10 years old Emmanuel Adejorin who dispersed his opponent in 2 straight wins in the best of 3 sets.
Young Adejorin in a chat with Lagos Panorama shortly before his game said he was excited and at the games to have fun.
The games opened yesterday with the accreditation of participants across 10 different sports among the 10 INEC-recognised wards of Ikeja Federal Constituency.
Games competing include football, basketball, table tennis, chess, scrabble, snooker, draft, ayo olopon, ludo and cards.
The first round of indoor games was concluded today, with women dominating the ludo games.
The former Vice Chairman of Onigbongbo LCDA, Hon Sadik Kayode defeated two other contenders in the ayo-olopon to book a place in the second round.
The second round of the indoor games continues tomorrow, Wednesday, while basketball and table tennis will commence on Friday at Police College and Ojodu LCDA Council Secretariat respectively.
The football event will kick off at 10 am on Saturday at the Opebi Primary School
