The Lagos State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has expressed concern over what it describes as the continued decline of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing a wave of defections and internal instability within the opposition party.

In a statement issued by its spokesman, Hon. Seye Oladejo, the APC noted that the exit of several PDP governors has significantly weakened the party’s structure and credibility. The development, according to the APC, leaves Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, on the verge of becoming the de facto leader of what it termed a “one-man PDP Governors Forum.”

The party argued that the dwindling number of PDP governors reflects deeper issues within its leadership, including a lack of ideological direction and unresolved internal crises. It described the ongoing defections as a clear indication of eroding confidence among key stakeholders.

According to the APC, a political party struggling to maintain internal cohesion cannot effectively position itself as a viable alternative for governing a complex country like Nigeria. It further characterized the PDP’s situation as both a political failure and a warning for opposition politics.

The statement also highlighted concerns about the broader implications for Nigeria’s democracy, noting that the weakening of opposition parties could undermine the balance required for a healthy democratic system. It stressed the need for a credible, organized, and forward-thinking opposition capable of offering constructive alternatives.
Drawing comparisons, the APC pointed to its own evolution during its years in opposition, emphasizing discipline, strategic planning, and perseverance as key factors that contributed to its eventual rise to power.

The Lagos APC reaffirmed its commitment to governance and institutional development, stating that it remains focused on delivering results while strengthening democratic processes.

It concluded by urging Nigerians to support political platforms that demonstrate unity, stability, and a clear vision for leadership, rather than those grappling with internal discord and frequent defections.
