Ayantayo made this charge at a workshop organised by his office with the theme “Performance Improvement”, held on Tuesday at Alausa, Ikeja, saying that the workshop was to equip managers with the desired knowledge to identify and implement suitable solutions to performance issues, improve efficiency and increase output.

The Special Adviser asserted that Administration and Human Resource Managers have key roles to play in increasing the effectiveness and efficiency of their various parastatals in order to actualise the development plan of Mr. Governor, embedded in the T.H.E.M.E.S agenda.

In his words, “The resolve to further strengthen parastatals in Lagos to be the best in service delivery has informed the focus of our Office on the development of templates that would enhance effective and efficient service delivery at the Parastatals Monitoring level, through training and retraining of the workforce”.

He implored the Human Resource Managers to apply ingenuity and creativeness in their work to achieve a high standard of performance while thoughts, assumptions or emotions that may impede discharge of duties should be expunged, stressing that the Governor is keeping tabs and will not accept anything short of good performance from all.

Speaking as one of the facilitators at the workshop on “Key Performance Indicators” (KPI), Professor Banji Fajonyomi of the Lagos State University (LASU), Public Administration Department, explained that key performance indicators are quantifiable measures used to assess the progress of the organisation over time in relation to their strategic goals and objectives.

According to him, rules ensure workers safety since it clarifies the do’s and don’ts’, including actions and their corresponding consequences, noting that rules also guide against arbitrary decision-making and ensure organisations compete in a fair manner.

Solaja urged the Administrators to employ teamwork in the discharge of their duties, assist their various agencies and position them to ensure employees work smarter.

Mrs. Bimbo Bello, the Director of Administration and Human Resource for Lagos State Health Management Agency (LASHMA), a participant at the workshop, said the programme equipped participants with the skills to identify the capabilities of employees.

According to her, participants learnt that KPIs set for employees to measure their performance must be specific and achievable, commending efforts of the Lagos State Government to drive manpower improvement of its workforce.

In the same vein, Mr. Oluwakemi Lateef, of Lagos State Development Corporation (LSDPC) said the workshop spoke directly to the ongoing process at his organisation.

He revealed that his workplace recently acquired an Enterprise Resource Planning Solution to automate their operational process, and one of the critical modules of the process are the Key Performance Indicators (KPI), hence the timeliness and the relevance of the Workshop which will positively impact performance improvement at his workplace.
