The scheduled Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match between Morocco and Liberia has been postponed due to a devastating earthquake that struck the country.
The earthquake, measuring 6.8 in magnitude, occurred near Marrakech on Friday night, resulting in over 800 confirmed fatalities and hundreds more injured.
Originally set to take place in Agadir on Saturday, the decision to reschedule the AFCON qualifier was announced on the official website of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation.
The statement released by the federation reads: “As a result of the earthquake that affected various regions in Morocco, the Royal Moroccan Football Federation confirms the postponement of the match between the national team and Liberia, which was scheduled for the evening of September 9, 2023, as part of the final round of qualifiers for the 2024 African Cup of Nations – Côte d’Ivoire. The new date will be determined in agreement with the Confederation of African Football.”
The federation also expressed condolences for the victims and wished a speedy recovery to the injured individuals
