The Executive Chairman of Oto-Awori Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. Kareem Azeez Abiodun, has flagged off the distribution of 400 free 2026 General Certificate Examination (GCE) forms to indigent students across the council area.
The distribution ceremony, held on Thursday, July 23, 2026, at the Oto-Awori LCDA Secretariat Hall, underscores the council’s commitment to expanding access to education and supporting students from less privileged backgrounds.
Representing the Chairman at the event, the Supervisor for Education, Comrade Bello Adeniyi Jelili, said the initiative was designed to ease the financial burden on parents and guardians while encouraging academic excellence among students.
He reiterated the administration’s belief that no child should be denied the opportunity to further their education because of financial constraints.
“Education remains the bedrock of development. No child in Oto-Awori should be denied the opportunity to sit for GCE or WAEC because of financial challenges,” he stated.
Hon. Abiodun reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to educational development, highlighting several landmark interventions, including the construction of a 12-classroom storey building at Ilemba Awori, provision of borehole water and solar-powered lighting in public schools, distribution of books, school bags, desks and chairs, as well as the annual provision of free GCE and JAMB forms.
He urged the beneficiaries to remain focused on their studies, excel in the examinations, and become worthy ambassadors of Oto-Awori LCDA.
In her welcome address, the Council Manager, Mrs. Olamide Whenu, encouraged the students to prepare diligently for the examination, maintain good character, and strive for excellence in their academic pursuits.
The event was attended by the Leader of the House, Hon. Awoyemi Audu Sulaimon; the Majority Leader and Chairman, House Committee on Education, Hon. Salami Akinyele; Chief Whip, Hon. Afolabi-Aso Christiana; Deputy Chief Whip, Hon. Falana Durojaiye John; Supervisors, the Chief of Staff, Mr. Emmanuel Coker, the Head of Department of Education, members of the management team, school administrators, traditional rulers, community leaders, parents, and the 400 beneficiaries drawn from the five wards of the LCDA.
The free GCE registration initiative is part of the Oto-Awori LCDA administration’s broader efforts to improve educational opportunities, promote academic success, and invest in the future of young people within the council area.
