
Onigbongbo Local Council Development Area (LCDA) has embarked on massive fumigation of all the six wards in the local government.

The Executive Chairman of the Council Hon Babatunde Oke in a recent chat with Lagos Panorama stated that “with outbreak of the coronavirus, it is expedient to disinfect our community, most especially all the public spaces and structures while we are also putting in all other measures to curb the spread of the deadly virus”.

Oke also noted that “we have to support the state government efforts in the fight against the spread of the deadly virus, we had distributed palliatives which included food stimulus, sanitizers, facemasks and other items to residents of Onigbongbo”.
“As part of our preventive measure, we had to fumigate all the public spaces and some private spaces on request to prevent the spread of COVID-19” the Onigbongbo helmsman posited.

The Head of Department, Environmental Services Onigbongbo LCDA, Mrs Abijo Nurat Mopelola also stated that “we started fumigating all the wards in Onigbongbo since March shortly after the index case of coronavirus in Lagos. We have six wards in Onigbongbo and we have covered all the wards, street by street”

“Most of the residents are very supportive and they cooperate with us”.

“However, there were some situations where we face some encounters with some residents who requested that before we fumigate their community we should give them palliatives, but we talked to them that we were not in charge of palliatives but for preventive”.
“We also let them know that the council had done some palliatives for the vulnerable residents which most of them were aware of, it’s not possible to reach everyone with palliatives and they later allow us do our job because it’s for everyone good” she averred.
