Onigbongbo LCDA was abuzz with celebration on Friday as residents turned out in large numbers to mark the first 100 days in office of the Executive Chairman, Hon. Moyosore Adebanjo. The event, held at Opebi Primary School, Ikeja, featured the launch of the Mega Empowerment Programme 1.0 and the Eco-Circulate Waste-to-Wealth Initiative, signalling a bold push for sustainable community development and economic empowerment.
In his address, Hon. Adebanjo reiterated his administration’s commitment to turning challenges into opportunities for residents, emphasizing that the empowerment tools distributed are meant to help people build sustainable livelihoods. Over 500 beneficiaries, including women, youths, widows, artisans, and traders, received items such as cash grants, sewing machines, grinding machines, freezers, hairdryers, solar lights, generator sets, clippers, CNG tricycles, and ICT opportunities through a partnership with the Industrial Training Fund (ITF).
Speaking at the event, Lagos State Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mobolaji Ogunlende, praised the initiative, noting that it demonstrates strong commitment to enhancing livelihoods and expanding economic opportunities. He said the programme equips residents to grow their businesses and improve economic stability, while also reflecting Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu’s dedication to development, inclusivity, and the upliftment of Lagos State residents.
The State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, also commended the Council Chairman for keying into progressive ideals that prioritize the wellbeing of the people. He urged beneficiaries to make good use of the equipment and cash grants to grow their businesses. Similarly, Dr. Abayomi Finnih, a member of the State’s Governing Advisory Council (GAC), congratulated residents for having a compassionate chairman and encouraged them to support him fully in his efforts to transform the LCDA.
Hon. Adebanjo outlined the guiding philosophy of his administration — the F.I.N.E Agenda, which stands for Foster Economic Growth, Invest in the People, Nurture Ideas and Enterprises, and Ensure Wellbeing, Security and Good Governance. As part of these efforts, he announced that the community-based Onigbongbo Marshall (O’Marshall) security initiative will be launched next year to enhance neighbourhood safety and complement existing security agencies.
The chairman highlighted key achievements within the first 100 days across various sectors. In youth development, the administration hosted the Moyosore Youth Championship Cup, organized an NDLEA-backed workshop on drug abuse, inaugurated the NYCN Onigbongbo Executive Council, and rewarded outstanding council staff with incentives. In education, the council successfully held the 2025 Spelling Bee Competition, launched the Back-to-School Initiative, and provided ICT equipment to support voter pre-registration.
Welfare and social support efforts included providing jobs for vulnerable families, launching free health insurance for aged residents, and organizing the “Moyo Pink Walk” breast cancer awareness campaign. Infrastructure and environmental projects saw the resurfacing of key roads, including Olorunfunmi Street, Abiola Crescent, and Afolabi Awosanya Street, while the Onigbongbo waste compactor was reactivated to ensure regular waste collection.

Economic growth initiatives included providing CNG tricycles for residents, hosting a delegation from Brampton, Canada, celebrating World Tourism Day, and granting trade support to 102 market traders.
Another major highlight of the event was the launch of the Eco-Circulate Waste-to-Wealth Programme, developed in partnership with the Office of the Special Adviser on Climate Change and Circular Economy and the recycling platform PAKAM. The initiative allows residents to exchange recyclable materials for cash, rice, airtime, bus passes, and other incentives, promoting environmental sustainability while generating new income streams.
The event was well attended by Councillors led by the Leader of the Onigbongbo Legislative Council, Hon. Francis Nkwo, APC Onigbongbo LGA Chairperson Alhaja Iyabode Akerele and her executives, traditional and religious leaders, as well as CDC and CDA executives and other key stakeholders.
Describing the dual programme launch as a new model for grassroots development, Hon. Adebanjo said his administration was building a system that promotes economic inclusion, cleaner environments, youth engagement, and household income growth. He assured residents that the momentum would continue, with more projects in roads, education, security, and partnerships in the pipeline.
Concluding his address, Hon. Adebanjo stated, “What we are building is a legacy — not politics, not tokenism. A legacy of empowerment, innovation, and community-first governance. Under the F.I.N.E Agenda, we will create an Onigbongbo LCDA where every resident can proudly say: This is our community, this is our government, this is our time.”
The celebration highlighted a clear commitment to development, empowerment, and community-driven governance, leaving residents optimistic about the future of Onigbongbo LCDA.
