Picture from the Scene of accident

Tragedy struck once again on Thursday at the Otedola bridge, Lagos as a tanker has collided with a fully loaded commercial bus on Otedola Bridge in Lagos leaving one person dead and seven injured on Thursday morning.

The accident involved a Mazda bus with 10 passengers and a tanker on Otedola Bridge at the lane inwards Berger, causing heavy traffic that stretches beyond the state Secretariat in Alausa. The accident involving 10 vehicles rammed into each other. The accident which happened inwards Berger on the bridge along Lagos-Ibadan expressway involved a high capacity bus (LAGBUS), a truck carrying a container, a pickup van, and saloon cars.

According to eyewitness accounts, the accident was caused by the driver of the LAGBUS, who was said to have been driving recklessly when he swerved and rammed into the white pick up van. With the impact of the crash, other drivers that were also on speed rammed their vehicles into the high capacity bus, the truck, and the van.

Although the eyewitnesses did not rule out over speeding, others, however, blamed the accident on the sloppy nature of the road by Otedola Bridge, coupled with the heavy rainfall which affected the visibility of motorists.

Confirming the accident in a series of tweets, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) advised motorists to take alternate routes to their destinations while emergency officials rescued the victims. Other emergency responders include the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and Lagos State Fire Service.

All relevant emergency agencies are on the ground to prevent a fire outbreak.
