In a statement issued on Wednesday, the family described Mr. Awolowo as “a devoted husband, father and grandfather whose life embodied service, humility and unwavering love for his family and country.”

They highlighted his integrity, patriotism, and calm disposition, noting that he lived a purposeful life and touched many across different spheres with his kindness and strength of character.

“We are deeply heartbroken by his departure, yet profoundly grateful for the remarkable legacy he leaves behind,” the statement added.

The family announced that condolences will be received at his residence daily between 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.
