— LASEMA Confirms Swift Rescue Operation
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has confirmed the death of one person and injuries to several passengers following a late-night road accident that occurred at Obadore, inward Igando, along LASU-Igando Road on Sunday.
According to a preliminary report signed by the Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, Dr. Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, the agency received a distress call around 11:00 p.m. and immediately activated the State’s Emergency Response Plan from its Igando Base.
Incident Description
Upon arrival at 11:27 p.m., the LASEMA Response Team discovered that a fully loaded commercial Mazda bus had collided with a broken-down Private Sector Participant (PSP) compactor truck stationed on the Obadore Bridge.
Cause of Accident
Investigations revealed that the PSP truck, with registration number KSF 254 XV, had broken down on the fast lane without any caution sign or warning device to alert oncoming motorists. The commercial bus, a Mazda with registration number LND 602 YE, crashed into the stationary truck, resulting in severe impact.
Casualties
The driver of the Mazda bus, identified as a male staff of the Lagos State University (LASU), lost his life in the crash. Other passengers sustained varying degrees of injuries and received first aid from the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) before being transported to the hospital for further medical treatment.
Emergency Response
LASEMA officials coordinated rescue and recovery operations, while traffic control measures were immediately implemented to prevent secondary incidents. The remains of the deceased driver were conveyed by a LASU ambulance to his residence, while the damaged vehicle was towed to the Obadore Police Station by the Agency’s Lite Tow Truck.
Normal vehicular movement has since been restored on the route, and the recovery operation concluded.
