Oba Abdulakeem Abimbola Owoade I, on Saturday, became the 46th Alaafin of Oyo in a historic ceremony that was witnessed by the low and might across the nation.
Oyo state Governor Seyi Makinde has vowed to continue to ensure total compliance with the rule of law in the state as he officially unveiled the Oba Owoade 1 as the 46th Alaafin of Oyo.
He expressed delight that the initial rancour surrounding the ascension to the stool had been resolved.
The event was held at the Oliveth Baptist High school Oyo town, one of the venues of the event and reports that dignitaries across the country and diplomats from across the world graced the event.
As expected, cultural displays, recitations, traditional chants to extol the virtues of the new Alaafin of Oyo added glamour to the coronation ceremony.
In his goodwill message, President Bola Tinubu, who was represented by the Minister of Power, Chief Bayo Adelabu, emphasized that as the nation navigates through complex challenges the stool of the Alaafin remains vital in fostering peace, promoting cultural identity, and supporting governance.
In his keynote address shortly after unveiling the Alaafin to the world, Governor Seyi Makinde explained that his administration would not tolerate any form of transactional succession to the traditional stools in the state, urging the Alaafin to work with the Oyo Mesi in protecting the stool from future lacuna.
Oba Abimbola as a testament to his administration’s credibility as a stickler to due process, stating that his ascension is also a testament to the enduring spirit and resilience of Oyo indigenes.
He said: “I want to say congratulations once again to the people of Oyo Kingdom. Your patience and resilience have paid off and this is why today has become a reality.
The Mogaji Ajiwogbo and member of the House of Representatives representing Egbeda/Ona-Ara Federal Constituency, Hon Akin Alabi, has congratulated the Oyo State government, the good people of Oyo and the entire Oyo Kingdom on the historic coronation of his imperial majesty, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade, Elewu Etu 1 as the new Alaafin of Oyo.
Hon. Akin Alabi expressed optimism that the reign of the new Alaafin will usher in an era of peace, progress, and prosperity for the sons and daughters of the ancient town, both at home and in the diaspora.
