NSIB probes Aero Contractors’ runway incident at Abuja Airport

The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has launched investigation into a serious aircraft accident involving a Boeing 733, with the registration number 5N-BYQ, belonging to Aero Contractors Airlines, which nose-stucked after landing at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA), Abuja, at about 10:47a.m., on Sunday.

The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has launched investigation into a serious aircraft accident involving a Boeing 733, with the registration number 5N-BYQ, belonging to Aero Contractors Airlines, which nose-stucked after landing at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA), Abuja, at about 10:47a.m., yesterday.

A statement by the Director, Public Affairs and Consumer Protection of NSIB, James Odaudu, said the aircraft upon landing at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, from Lagos and in a bid to exit the runway via A4, had its nose wheel stuck in the grass verge with its fuselage on the runway.

To this extent, the NSIB solicited information from the public in form of pictures, videos or recording evidences to assist in conducting a comprehensive investigation.

“The NSIB will appreciate that the public and media respect the privacy of the people on board and NOT assume the cause of the serious incident until formal report is released.

“The NSIB is a multimodal investigation agency charged with the mandate to investigate transportation accidents and serious incidents in Nigeria with the aim of identifying the probable causes and proffer safety recommendations that can prevent reoccurrence,” the statement said.

The statement assured that the Bureau would release the preliminary report as soon as possible.
