The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has issued a public notice clarifying the correct procedure for the rendition and recitation of Nigeria’s National Anthem and National Pledge during official and national events.
According to the Agency, only the first stanza of the National Anthem should be sung at all official functions, while the third stanza is to be rendered as the National Prayer at the beginning of events.
The NOA further stated that all three stanzas of the anthem are to be sung or recited only on special national occasions, such as:
- Independence Day
- Presidential Inauguration (Swearing-in)
- Armed Forces Remembrance Day
- Democracy Day (June 12)
- Inauguration of the National Assembly, among others.
Additionally, the National Pledge is to be recited at the end of every official event.
The Agency urged all citizens and institutions to adhere strictly to these protocols, emphasizing the importance of upholding the dignity and sanctity of national symbols.
