The Nigeria Police Force on Thursday reiterated that Nigerians can video or take pictures of officers on duty.
The Spokesperson of the Nigeria Police Force, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said this while reacting to a post by a user on X who asked if it is a crime to video during stop and search because he had to pay N10,000 to some Police officers to give him back his phone after taking it forcefully from him.
“You can video or take pictures of policemen on duty. We have said it severally. There is nothing wrong with that,” Adejobi said.
“You can take up the case. Send an sms to me or to our email box, Pressforabuja@police.gov.ng. you can as well talk to your PPRO. Thanks.”
Meanwhile, another X use said the campaign Adejobi is pushing is good but the problem is the message is getting to the citizens but not the officers on the ground.
“Maybe you should start broadcasting to those officers in various local languages and pidgin. Times are different, and they need to adapt or get out,” OgbeniJayBee said.
Adejobi replied him, saying that every policeman knows that videoing and taking pictures of them on duty is allowed and permitted.
He added that those who attack or harrass people for such are just deviants and recalcitrant and unprofessional.
“Or have you seen anyone of them telling you he’s not aware? They all know,” the Police spokesperson said.
“It’s like a case of a criminal who knows committing crimes is criminal and punishable, yet he does it until he’s caught.”
