The Nigerian military has recorded a significant operational breakthrough in Kwara State, following coordinated airstrikes that destroyed several terrorist camps and neutralised more than 100 fighters across three local government areas.
The weekend operation targeted identified terrorist and bandit hideouts in Edu, Ifelodun and Patigi LGAs—areas security sources described as long-standing havens for criminal groups terrorising nearby communities.
Locations struck during the air raids included Baba Sango in Ifelodun LGA, Gbugbu in Edu LGA and Lata in Patigi LGA. The affected sites were reportedly being used as bases for kidnapping, armed robbery and other violent crimes.
Military sources disclosed that multiple terrorist camps and logistics hubs were successfully destroyed, forcing surviving fighters to flee. While over 100 terrorists were neutralised during the operation, others were said to have sustained injuries before escaping into surrounding forests.
Confirming the development in Ilorin, a senior military officer involved in the operation said the strikes were part of sustained efforts to dismantle criminal networks threatening peace and security in the state.
The officer added that although the operation dealt a major blow to terrorist activities, intelligence leaks from informants within some communities continue to pose challenges to ongoing military efforts.
Residents were therefore urged to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements to security agencies.
The military reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining sustained pressure on criminal groups until lasting peace is restored across affected parts of Kwara State.
