Naija Super 8: Sporting Lagos defeat Remo Stars on Penalties to emerge champions, cart away N25m

Newly promoted side to the Nigeria Professional Football League, (NPFL) Sporting Lagos have emerged champions of the maiden edition of the Naija Super 8 competition after defeating Remo Stars on penalties in the final on Sunday at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan Lagos.

The Lagos side triumphed 4-2 on penalty shootout after 90 minutes ended 1-1.

After a goalless first half Sporting Lagos took the lead in the 52nd minute through Aliu.

Remo’s Adams Olamilekan scored with four minutes left but it’s ruled out for offside.

Olamilekan eventually got the equaliser in the 93rd minute.

Sporting Lagos surprised many after gaining entry into the competition through wild card.

Recall that Sporting Lagos also rallied from a goal down to beat Remo Stars 2-1 in their Naija Super 8 Group A encounter at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos on Tuesday.

For emerging winner Sporting Lagos was awarded the star prize of N25m while Remo got N9m.
