The Nigeria Police Force has announced the arrest of 1,246 suspects in October for involvement in various criminal activities, according to the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi The announcement was made during a press briefing in Abuja on Wednesday.
Adejobi detailed that among the arrests, 371 suspects were apprehended for alleged armed robbery, 186 for kidnapping, 242 for murder and homicide, 63 for rape, 217 for unlawful possession of prohibited firearms, and 167 for cultism.
Police also recovered 210 firearms, 3,172 rounds of ammunition, and 118 stolen vehicles. Additionally, 64 kidnap victims were rescued over the course of the month.
In Delta State, the Special Assignment Team (SAT) arrested 52 individuals connected to kidnapping, cultism, gunrunning, and other crimes.
The operatives confiscated seven AK-47 rifles, one AK-49, one G3 rifle, six pump-action rifles, nine LMG rifles, 16 Beretta pistols, 35 live cartridges, and 53 rounds of live ammunition from these suspects.
Adejobi reported that N5.5 million in suspected ransom money was seized, along with the rescue of three kidnap victims.
Meanwhile, the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Police Command in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) tracked down and apprehended four suspected kidnappers notorious for terrorising the FCT.
The suspects were captured at a hideout in Sauka, Abuja, following credible intelligence.
The suspects reportedly admitted to involvement in multiple kidnappings and the killing of seven victims in the FCT and neighbouring states.
They led police to another hideout in Gauraka Forest, Suleja, Niger State, where officers uncovered four AK-47 rifles, 13 magazines, and 162 rounds of 7.6 mm ammunition.
