Many feared trapped as seven-storey building collapses in Banana Island, Lagos

Many feared being trapped as a seven-storey building situated inside the luxurious Banana Island in Lagos State collapsed. The incident happened on Wednesday around past 3 pm.

Many feared being trapped as a seven-storey building situated inside the luxurious Banana Island in Lagos State collapsed. The incident happened on Wednesday around past 3 pm.

The Lagos Panorama gathered that building under construction caved in and many workers are trapped beneath the rubble.

A source said while it is unsure what triggered the collapse, concreting was ongoing on the sixth floor before the collapse.

A terse statement by NEMA said workers are trapped in the building and its officials are mobilising the response team to rescue the trapped victims.

Some of them were however injured as a result of the collapse.

The Lagos Fire Service and Rescue Service spokesperson, Amodu Shakiri, confirmed the incident.

He said, “We got a call around 3:58 pm. We are currently trying to ascertain the claim that no one was under the rubble.”
