Chelsea came out 2-0 winners at the Emirates in a comfortable performance as Romelu Lukaku scores his debut goal against Arsenal on Sunday.
The Belgian put Chelsea ahead just 15 minutes in before Reece James doubled his side’s lead before half-time.
After the goal, the Blues took full control of the match as Lukaku bullied the Arsenal defenders, showing his world class hold up play as Chelsea searched for their second goal, which came at the 35th minute.
And Chelsea’s new, £97.5million signing from Inter delivered. He scored on his second debut for the club inside 15 minutes, before Reece James – who had supplied the Belgian -made it 2-0.
In the second half, Arsenal performed better but Chelsea managed the game well and finished with a couple of chances, but no further goals.
Arsenal looked to press high and play on the transition, but the visitors – led by Jorginho – looked to use their possession.
Despite Kieran Tierney and Bukayo Saka looking dangerous for the hosts, it only took 15 minutes for Lukaku to properly announce himself as a Chelsea player.
In a trademark Lukaku move, the striker held the ball up and dragged the defenders out. From there, he bullied his way back into the box – sending Pablo Mari to the floor – and tapped home James’ cross.
England international James then made it 2-0 with a finish of his own. Supplied by Mason Mount, the right-back took a touch on the right side of the box before thumping home.
The Belgian received a warm welcome from the Blues fans before kick-off and sent them into delirium with the opening goal in north London.
This, however, isn’t the first time he has scored on his first appearance after signing for a new team, having done so at his four previous clubs.
After a disappointing first spell at Stamford Bridge, the 28-year-old spent some time out at West Bromwich Albion and netted on his debut for the Baggies in a 3-0 win over Liverpool.
Lukaku left Chelsea to join Everton on loan in summer 2013, and, just three weeks later, he hit the winning goal in 3-2 success at West Ham United, continuing the trend set at the West Midlands outfit.
His time at the Toffees proved to a successful one as he earned a move to Manchester United, four years after initially signing for the Blues.
