Lagos State Public Servants have been enjoined to keep abreast of innovations in the Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) space in order to enhance their overall performance.

This was contained in the address of the Permanent Secretary, Office of Local Government Establishments, Training and Pensions (LGETPO), Mr. Abiodun Bamgboye, at the commencement of a two-day in-house programme for staff of the office at its training school in Ikeja.

The Permanent Secretary stated that the training was designed to boost service delivery by ensuring that all staff of the Office are ICT compliance, stressing that it is now imperative for public servants to embrace effective communication in the digital space.

He said, “Training and retraining are essential components of work life. It goes without saying that the world is an evolving global village and as employees in the State Public Service, we must always move with trends as we carry out our duties on a daily basis, if we want to compete favourably within the global world”.

Bamgboye, therefore, urged the participants to optimally harness the opportunities the training programme will offer them and apply the various takeaways in the effective discharge of their duties as well as in the actualisation of the T.H.E.M.E.S Agenda.

He remarked that the Office of Local Government, Establishments, Training and Pensions remains committed to meeting the training needs of public servants, maintaining that training and retraining of staff would continue to hold from time to time.

The Director, Administration and Human Resources, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Adegun, implored participants to move with ICT trends, in order to be at par with their counterparts across the country and other climes.

She added that the Lagos State Government is committed to making e-learning accessible to all, noting that the “Making Lagos a 21st-Century Economy” pillar in the T.H.E.M.E.S agenda is pivotal to the policy of the present administration and should reflect in the discharge of official duties rendered by all public servants.

A Facilitator and Head of Information, Communication and Technology in the Office, Mr. Idowu Olaseni, stated that the two-day programme was geared towards equipping staff with the necessary tools to assist them as they navigate their computers in the workplace.

“There are some current innovations in the digital world that need to be understood by public servants, which is one of the reasons for this training. At the end of the exercise, participants should be more acquainted with the effective use of computers applications, internet facilities, operating systems such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Google sheets and Goggle maps, among others, to enhance the discharge of their duties”, Oseni stated
