LAWMA urges residents to embrace a culture of waste sorting, recycling

The Managing Director/CEO, Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), Mr. Ibrahim Odumboni, has urged residents of Mainland Local Government and Yaba LCDA to embrace the culture of waste sorting at source as part of efforts to reduce pressure on landfills in the State. 

The Managing Director/CEO, Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), Mr. Ibrahim Odumboni, has urged residents of Mainland Local Government and Yaba LCDA to embrace the culture of waste sorting at source as part of efforts to reduce pressure on landfills in the State. 
 
Odumboni made the call at a meeting with solid waste management stakeholders in Mainland LG and Yaba LCDA, just as he enjoined them to look inwards for local solutions to tackling waste management challenges and active engagement of youths for waste policing in the area.
 
He explained that the stakeholders’ meeting was organised to effectively address the problems of waste management, urging participants to speak freely on environmental challenges in their various communities. He stated that similar meetings had been held in Apapa, Ajeromi/Ifelodun, Ikorodu-West, Mushin, Ifako-Ijaiye and Ojokoro LG/LCDAs of the State.
 
Mr. Nurudeen Aileru, who represented Yaba LCDA Chairman, commended LAWMA for the spirited effort at achieving a clean city, promising that the councils would play their parts in achieving a sustainable environment.
 
Alhaja Kaosara Adebayo, the Iyaloja Asejere Market, Oyingbo, appealed for increased waste evacuation due to market activities while also suggesting the creation of the equivalent of PSPs for Lagos Waterways.
 
Also speaking, the Yaba LCDA House Leader, Mr. Solomon Gbinigie suggested the setting up of a WhatsApp platform for stakeholders in the councils for quick resolution of waste management issues. 
 
Other prominent personalities at the meeting include LAWMA’s Executive Director of Finance, Mr. Kunle Adebiyi; LAWMA’s CTO, Dr. Olorunwa Tijani and CDC Mainland Chairman, Alhaji Tajudeen Quadri among others.
