The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has partnered with the Chartered Institution of Waste Management (CIWN) to implement professional certification courses in waste and resource management.

The Managing Director/CEO of LAWMA, Mr. Ibrahim Odumboni disclosed this in his office, at Ijora, noting that the partnership was approved by the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, and that the development would create an opportunity for interested persons to run professional certification courses in waste management and related disciplines.

He said: “It is gratifying for the Agency to enter into the partnership at this time with the support of the Governor, because it would open up opportunities for individual scholarship as well as investment opportunities and wealth creation in the waste management sector of Lagos State”.

Odumboni described the collaboration as a product of the existing partnership between LAWMA Academy and SafeEnviro Ltd UK, an environmental consulting firm, based in London.

The CEO noted that the partnership would also enhance best practices in waste management and ultimately bring forth a cleaner environment that will guarantee good health and promote environmental sustainability, adding that interested persons can run their courses and become chartered.

He averred that the collaboration between LAWMA Academy and SafeEnviro UK would also help build change agents for a sustainable environment in the State and beyond, urging residents to take advantage of the opportunity and get certified, as certificates would be issued at the end of the course.

The Managing Director, therefore, called on interested persons to visit LAWMA Academy’s website, www.lawmaacademy.com, for registration and inquiries, adding that while most of the courses are free, some others attract fees.
