On his part, the LASUBEB Permanent Board member in charge of BEQA, Mr. Temidayo Israel, stated that a lot is being done by the present administration, as dictated by the T.H.E.M.E.S Agenda, to ensure that Lagos maintains its leadership position in the education sector, especially in respect of quality assurance and teachers’ development.

Israel maintained that tremendous transformation has been witnessed in the education sector, noting that the EkoExcel Initiative is achieving set objectives of training, equipping and supporting teachers with content knowledge, practice in modern teaching methods and use of technology.

While stating the importance of reports from BEQA officers to serve as feedback, Israel emphasised the need for exploring more effective ways to gather information that will facilitate appropriate interventions by the government in the education sector.

He averred that monitoring of the Home-Grown feeding program and other laudable initiatives of government also fall within the purview of BEQA officers in order to provide useful pieces of advice to the appropriate authorities.

Providing further insight into the Eko Excel Initiative, a representative of Bridge International, Mr. Ayo Okewumi noted that the initiative has helped teachers deliver quality sessions in the classrooms, adding that school children in Lagos State are now being prepared to compete globally with their contemporaries across the world.
