LASG Urges Government Establishments to seek planning approval for construction

The Lagos State Government has called on Federal and State Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) in the State to always obtain physical planning approvals before embarking on building construction.

The Lagos State Government has called on Federal and State Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) in the State to always obtain physical planning approvals before embarking on building construction.

The Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Idris Salako, made this known while receiving the Lagos State Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Mr. Olusegun Ogungbemide, who came on a fact-finding mission in respect of the proposal to construct building extensions at the Command Headquarters, Ojodu.

Salako stated that the FRSC Sector Commander was on the right track as no organisation or individual has the right to erect buildings in Lagos State without a Planning Permit and supervision by the Lagos State Building Control Agency at every stage of the construction.

He urged all MDAs in the State to take a cue from FRSC and always approach the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development as well as its agencies for planning information and site selection services such as Planning Permits and Layout Approvals.

“Ministries, Departments and Agencies, be it State or Federal, are the images of Government. As such they are the standard-bearers that should always be above board in their activities, so the least that one can expect from these governmental organisations is not to act in such ways that will compromise planning, livable and sustainable built environment”, he said.

Earlier, the Lagos State Sector Commander pleaded for the understanding and support of the Ministry to fast track the planning approval process.
