Lagos State Government has outlined activities slated for the 2019 edition of the annual Community Day Celebration with a promise that rural communities would witness sporadic development and transformation under the present administration.
The grand finale of the week-long event organised to celebrate the various CDAs in the State for their complementary roles and advise to the government on matters affecting Community Development in the State would hold on Thursday, 14th November, 2019 at Police College Parade Ground, Ikeja.
The Commissioner for Local Government and Community Affairs, Mrs. Yetunde Arobieke, who disclosed this at a Press Conference held at Alausa, said that the present administration is determined to ensure that residents at the grassroots feel greater impact of governance.
She explained that the need to engender a cordial relationship and synergy between rural communities and local government areas informed the decision of the State Government to merge the erstwhile Ministry of Rural Development and the Ministry of Local Government into a single Ministry.
“I want to assure the rural communities in Lagos State that the present administration is very passionate about their development. The intention of government is to make these riverine areas very viable economically and aesthetically for tourists”, the Commissioner asserted.
Arobieke, however, cautioned CDA members to operate within their boundaries and eschew dispositions capable of bringing the State to disrepute or portray the government in a negative light.
In her words, “The State Government appreciates the contributions of our CDA members, especially in maintaining peaceful co-existence in their various domains and in safe-guarding government infrastructure at the grassroots level but in spite of this, it is important that the CDA members limit themselves to laws establishing them and desist from being overbearing or getting involved in arbitrary behaviour”, Arobieke stated.
She also encouraged residents of the State to cooperate with the leadership of their CDAs by paying their annual or monthly dues, stressing that the resources generated from the dues are often used to implement self-help projects for the benefit of their communities.
The Commissioner disclosed that prizes would be presented by members of the Assessment Committee to CDAs that emerge as winners during the project assessment tour across the 20 LGAs and 37 LCDAs in the State.
Other activities slated for the week-long event include Jumat Service on Friday 8th November, 2019 at Secretariat Central Mosque, Alausa by 1p.m and Thanksgiving Service at Chapel of Christ The Light on Sunday, 10th November, 2019 respectively.
Also, a Health Walk will hold on Saturday, November 9, 2019 from Ikeja Local Government Secretariat to Lagos State Secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja as well as a visit to Social Institutions on Tuesday, 12th November 2019.
