LASG Reiterates Commitment To Strengthen Emergency Response Agencies

The Honourable Commissioner for Special Duties and Intergovernmental Relations, Mr. Olugbenga Oyerinde disclosed this during his recent visit to the Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Agency (LNSA), aimed at familiarising with the Agency’s programmes and activities, as well as furthering its objectives.

Pledging the continued support of the Ministry LNSA, Oyerinde, however expressed his concerns on drug abuse, crime, vandalisation of government infrastructural facilities and other illegal acts perpetrated across the state by residents, especially by youths.

He emphasised collective action and expertise for effective emergency response and community insights in resolving the challenges impeding the effectiveness and efficiency of the Agency. “Let’s leverage on joint efforts to promote preventive measures and reduce crime and insecurity.”

In his response, Dr. Ifalade Oyekan, General Manager, Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Agency outlined the Agency’s mandate, programmes, and preparedness plans.

The General Manager highlighted the vital role of Corps officers in maintaining peace, order, and safety in communities, saying “These officers protect Lagosians from threats and fear caused by criminals, thugs, and hoodlums while ensuring citizens’ safety and security, even in dangerous situations.

“The LNSA is adopting a strategic community policing approach, in line with international best practices, to effectively address these challenges. This initiative is part of the Lagos State Government’s efforts to strengthen emergency response agencies and enhance disaster resilience”, he said.

The General Manager expressed gratitude to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his unwavering support and commitment to a resilient and sustainable future for Lagos State.

Dr. Ifalade Oyekan also extended his heartfelt appreciation to the Commissioner, Mr. Olugbenga Oyerinde for his exemplary leadership in coordinating emergency response agencies and management.

He specifically acknowledged Mr. Oyerinde’s commitment to reviewing staff welfare, saying “It is a welcome development, as it will boost morale and productivity among our officers.”
