LASG, Red Cross Strengthen Ties For Humanitarian Support

The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA), Hon. Bolaji Cecilia Dada, today, received a delegation from the Red Cross Society of Nigeria, Lagos State Branch, led by the Vice Chairman, Mr. Segun, on an advocacy visit to the Ministry.

 

The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA), Hon. Bolaji Cecilia Dada, today, received a delegation from the Red Cross Society of Nigeria, Lagos State Branch, led by the Vice Chairman, Mr. Segun, on an advocacy visit to the Ministry.

Hon. Dada, while welcoming the team to the Ministry, appreciated the Red Cross Society for their dedication to humanitarian service. She emphasised the alignment between WAPA’s mission and vision and the Red Cross’ efforts, particularly in empowering vulnerable groups.

She assured the delegation that the Ministry would provide technical support to the Society by enrolling the vulnerable in their care in short-term vocational training programmes. Dada revealed further that the state government would also equip the trainees after the four-week training programmes, enabling them to run businesses from their homes.

The Red Cross Vice Chairman, Mr. Segun Akande, outlined the organisation’s key areas of focus, including disaster relief, food security advocacy, and empowerment.

He reiterated the need for collaboration with WAPA to reach vulnerable communities more effectively.

Branch Secretary, Mr. Kunle Lasisi, conveyed the goodwill of the Lagos State Red Cross Chairman, Mrs. Adebola Kolawole, and announced that during their next visit, the Commissioner would be decorated as a Platinum Member of the society in recognition of her support for humanitarian initiatives.

He further commended the commitment of WAPA to poverty alleviation and skill acquisition for women, affirming that the Red Cross Society is ready to support the Ministry’s efforts in creating a sustainable impact.

The visit marked a significant step towards strengthening the partnership between the Red Cross Society and the Lagos State Government in addressing critical social issues.

Present at the event were the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Mrs. Oluyemi Kalesanwo, Directors in the Ministry, and some members of the Lagos State Branch of the Red Cross Society.
