The Lagos State Government has restated its commitment to continuously promote structures that will advance the attainment of Quality Education and Gender Equality (Goals 4 and 5 of SDGs).

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Sustainable Development Goals and Investment, Mrs. Solape Hammond, disclosed this at a programme organised in conjunction with the Cuppy Foundation to advance support for targets of SDGs 4 and 5.

Mrs. Hammond, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Office of SDGs and Investment, Mrs. Abosede George, said the State Government is putting a meaningful and coherent social policy on education and gender equality in place to strengthen communal solidarity and stakeholder Engagement.

Applauding the support of Ms. Florence Otedola, popularly known as DJ Cuppy, for identifying with the State and displaying a desire to ensure prosperity for all through her global outreach “Cuppy Foundation”, the Special Adviser explained that the underlying value of developmental integration is a springboard to achieving key targets of the T.H.E.M.E.S Agenda.

Her words: “Given our similar interests in accelerating and achieving gender parity, unleashing the power of women and girls to create a positive impact, the Office is empowering young girls and women across the State to participate in decision-making processes”.

“While we acknowledge your Foundation’s outstanding contribution and consistent endeavour in pushing for positive change, and amplifying actions, the State Government is expressive of equitable engagement and meaningful initiatives”.

The Special Adviser affirmed that the right investment in girls and women is a must to accelerate socio-economic growth and take action across communities to raise awareness on the right of children to education and promote gender parity.
She noted that while Lagos is taking the transformative journey and shifting on to the sustainable and resilient path, collective effort is required in order not to leave anyone behind.

In his remarks, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on SDGs, Mr. Lekan Fatodu, explained that the SDGs ‘Decade of Action’ is meant to solidify a partnership with Development Actors, propel meaningful engagement and push strategic actions toward improving the developmental structures.

He pointed out that the SDGs’ Youth Alliance is already setting the stage for young change-makers to showcase their leadership aptitude towards the global goals and inspire others to take action.

“The Alliance is made up of committed young people who are supporting the implementation of the SDGs in the State through the different action networks, per their preference and alignment of interest”, he stated.

Fatodu lauded DJ Cuppy for identifying with the noble cause of the State Government and committing resources to support projects that will accentuate the attainment of the world development agenda.

The Senior Special Assistant reiterated that the present administration desires to keep the chain of sustainable progress rolling by joining forces to address the most pressing challenges and turn goals into action.

In her contribution, the Founder of Cuppy Foundation, Ms. Florence Otedola (DJ Cuppy), stated that for the country to achieve meaningful progress, the society must be committed to removing those barriers hindering sustainable quality education and gender balance.

She explained that the Cuppy Foundation aspires to ensure that every child has access to quality education and is free from all forms of abuse that could affect their mental growth and development.

While officially accepting her admittance into the membership of the Lagos SDGs Youth Alliance, she revealed that the Alliance is a network that will embolden a series of opportunities for resourceful youths to engage and push the Agenda of SDGs.

She acknowledged the strides of the State Government in mobilising the youth for progressive endeavours, maintaining that her Foundation will continue to be a partner in making Lagos a Great City.

Present at the event were Champions of the Lagos SDGs Youth Alliance and students of Lateef Jakande Comprehensive Senior College and SDGs STEM Hub, Abesan Housing Estate, Ipaja, Lagos.
