The Lagos State Drivers’ Institute (LASDRI) has trained and recertified 166 drivers of the Lagos State Health Service Commission at a two-day Advanced Professional Training Programme held at the Institute’s Headquarters, Oshodi.

Speaking at the event, the General Manager of LASDRI, Mrs. Afusat Tiamiyu, said the training was aimed at re-enlightening the trainees about the fundamental principles, qualities, dynamics and responsibilities involved in the art of being a professional ambulance driver.

She explained that part of the qualities required to carry out their duties include: the ability to make swift decisions, empathy, care for others, and staying calm and focused under pressure, stating that Professional Drivers must also have a good level of physical fitness, positive attitude and strong communication skills.

Tiamiyu implored the Institutes’ seasoned instructors to ensure that the participants are exposed to the nitty-gritty of what it entails to be safe ambulance drivers by exposing them to courses such as ‘Right of Way’, ‘Space Cushion’, ‘Vehicle Dynamics’, ‘Threat Recognition’ as well as ‘Causes and Consequences of Road Accidents’, among others.

Recall that the Institute had earlier trained Convoy Drivers in the Office of the First Lady, Professional Drivers from the Lagos State Ministry of Justice, Lagos State Ministry of Health, Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC), Lagos State Ministry of Information and Strategy and Lagos State Public Service Office.
