The General Manager of the Lagos State Drivers’ Institute, Mrs. Afusat Tiamiyu, has revealed that the Institute will be establishing more annexes in an effort to train and recertify more professional drivers towards ensuring safer motoring.

She disclosed this during a traffic monitoring programme, “Your Side Mirror” on Traffic Radio 96.1 FM, where she spoke extensively on LASDRI’s strategy for the Year 2022 and its achievements so far.

Highlighting the achievements of the Institute in 2021, the General Manager informed that the Institute was able to establish five new annexes, bringing the total number of LASDRI’s Operation Centres to 10.

Tiamiyu also revealed that the target of the Institute for the year 2022 is to reach as many professional drivers as possible and surpass all the previous training records, hence the need for more annexes, especially for areas that are yet to have any LASDRI Centre/Annexe.

The General Manager further disclosed that the Institute will continue to key into the Transportation and Traffic Management Agenda of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration by providing adequate training and retraining for motor vehicle drivers and certifying them for safety in Lagos state.

“We will be engaging in lots of on-site training for drivers of both public and private organisations as well as commercial drivers. We are well prepared and equipped this year to take the training to their doorstep. We will also be organising Public Enlightenment and Advocacy Campaign programmes at motor parks and garages spread across Lagos State. All these are to ensure that no driver is left behind in our recertification scheme”, she said.

Tiamiyu appreciated the Lagos State Government for the renovation and transformation of the LASDRI’s Headquarters as well as the Ikeja Centre of the Institute, through the Lagos State Infrastructure Assets Management Agency (LASIAMA), noting that the renovation has greatly increased the influx of drivers to the Institute while the environment is now more conducive for learning.

In her words: “I can authoritatively say that we now have a new LASDRI. Our Eye Screening Unit has received an upgrade, also all our simulators, seat-belt convincer and every other world-class training equipment are in perfect working condition. Our classrooms are now very conducive, likewise our environment generally and we have Mr. Governor to thank for this highly commendable development”.

While reminding listeners about the online recertification training designed for professional drivers that might be too busy to attend the Institute for their yearly mandatory training programme, the General Manager advised all drivers that are yet to come for the annual exercise to do so urgently in order to avoid contravening the law.
