(L- R): General Manager, LASBCA, Arc. Gbolahan Oki, and Commissioner of Police Lagos State, Mr. Hakeem Odumosu.

The General Manager of the Lagos State Building Control Agency, Arc. Gbolahan Oki, has called for collaboration between the Agency and the Lagos State Police Command for effective monitoring and enforcement for conformity in the built environment.

Oki made the call during his courtesy visit to the Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, Mr. Hakeem Odumosu at the Police Command, GRA, Ikeja.

According to the General Manager, who was in the company of management staff of the agency, it had become necessary to synergise with the Police Command, especially in violent prone areas, in order to adequately carry out the assignment and responsibilities of the Agency.

Speaking further, Arc. Oki said officials of the Agency are often attacked by hoodlums, sometimes sponsored by recalcitrant developers/owners, while carrying out their lawful duties and if not properly addressed it would affect the services provided by the Agency.

While thanking the Command for its continued support in the past, the General Manager maintained that there is an urgent need to enhance the existing relationship between the two organisations towards achieving the set goals and objectives of the State government as conceptualised in the T.H.E.M.E.S agenda.

In his remarks, the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Hakeem Odumosu, reiterated that the primary responsibility of the government is to ensure the security of lives and property of her citizenry and the Command has constantly risen to defend that constitutional responsibility.

While applauding the efforts of LASBCA in reducing cases of building collapse in the State through routine monitoring and enforcement for compliance, the Commissioner of Police urged officials of the Agency not to relax in their duties but always ensure that they carry out due diligence before embarking on any enforcement drive.

Odumosu said, “As an Agency of Government saddled with the responsibility of removing illegal buildings, your job is not complete without enforcement, so be ready to face any security threat, but carry out due diligence and do not underrate the security threat of any area”.

He, however, assured the Agency of the Command’s full support in the deployment of policemen for protection during the enforcement exercises.

The meeting, which had in attendance top Police Officers in the State and the management staff of the Agency, is part of the efforts of the Agency to improve on its compliance drive in line with the T.H.E.M.E.S Agenda to improve physical infrastructure, housing and security in the State.
