The Lagos State Taekwondo Association, over the weekend, organised a Taekwondo Competition tagged “IBILE Poomsae”, as part of efforts to complement the Lagos State Sports Commission’s ‘Sports Is Back Programme’.

According to the Secretary of the Lagos State Taekwondo Association, Gladys Akagbosu, 86 participants from 10 Clubs in Lagos participated in the one-day event geared towards developing the game of Taekwondo at the grassroots.

She stated that the competition was also aimed at discovering new talents, as well as using the opportunity to enhance the performance of the Lagos State Sports Festival Team, for the forthcoming ‘Edo 2020’ sports festival coming up in December 2020.

On his part, the Director, Sports Development, Lagos State Sports Commission, Mr. Kolawole Moses, commended the athletes for a job well done and for adhering strictly to the COVID-19 safety protocols during the competition.

He added that prizes in form of gift items and medals were given only to the first place winner but Certificates of Participation would be given to all participants.

Recall that the Lagos State Sports Commission, after the lifting of the ban on sporting activities by the Federal Government Task Force on COVID-19, organised Sports Competitions for non-contact sports and had also commenced a series of training activities in all sporting facilities to make sure that sporting events fully return to Lagos State.
