The Lagos State House of Assembly House Committee on Judiciary has paid a visit to Ejigbo Local Council Development Area, Lagos State,
to check the activities of the Customary Court and also ensure that they have a smooth running of activities.
Led by the Committee Chairman, Hon. Victor Olusegun Akande, the delegation visited the Local Council today Thursday, 20th January, 2022.
Hon. Akande applauded Ejigbo LCDA for the beautiful environment and what he saw at the Customary court. He therefore scored the Council eighty percent (80%) and itemized what needs to be put in place to make the court more conducive and one of the best.
The Committee Chairman further advised the Council Legal Officer, Barr. Adebukola Otufowora Hunkokoe, to always guide the officials of the court in making their laws so that they won’t derail.
He added that the Customary Court can be used to get more revenue for the Local Council.
Hon. Akande then appealed to the Council Chairman to ensure that necessary equipment is provided for the court to make it a more functional and more conducive working environment.
The Executive Chairman, Alhaji Monsurudeen Oloyede Bello (OBE) in his response stated that although the Customary Court should primarily be the business of the government, the court is facing a serious challenge regarding security.
He further explained that huge amount of money has been invested in the Customary Court, but it was a loss due to the level of insecurity in the area. He added that they had gone to the extent of collaborating with the Police Force to sight a police post in the area in order to ensure sanity but it was beyond their control due to lack of personnel and equipments.
The Executive Chairman, thanked the Committee for their visit.
