Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency (LASCOPA) meets with Ikoyi-Obalende LCDA in order protect consumer’s right over substandard product and services
The General Manager of LAGOS STATE CONSUMER PROTECTION AGENCY (LASCOPA), and his Team visited Ikoyi-Obalende LCDA on Monday 4th of October at the Council Chamber to meet and address the right of consumer in Lagos State.
At the meeting, the General Manager Afolabi Sholabo Esq made it known that in order to have a Senegy with the Local Government and LCDAs, The Agency will establish their presence in all the 20 Local Government, and 37 LCDAs. The Local Governments and Local Council Development Areas are to provide an office space for the smooth running of operations with Local Government for effective service deliveries for Lagosians.
Barrister Afolabi Sholabo said the Agency will not take sorry for any Substandard products being discovered in circulation and that all necessary legal actions shall be taken against any dealers in such acts.
The GM LASCOPA emphasized on the need of urgent office space for the Agency in order to achieve results in the eradication of Substandard products/goods in circulation. He said consumer will be encouraged to lodge complain at any point in time and money must be refunded immediately if products/ goods are found to be substandard for the consumption of the consumers. He also said that there will be a forensic dept which will be in charge of Authenticity and Confirmation if the goods are substandard or not.
Finally, the GM LASCOPA said more publicity, awareness and enlightenment should be done.
The Executive Chairman Ikoyi-Obalende LCDA Mr Fuad Atanda-Lawal welcome and appreciated the team by applauding their effort in eradicating Substandard Products which has been a big issue for a very long time in the state. He further stressed the facts that people are used to Substandard products and services.
Mr Fuad made it known that he’s ready with his team to work with the Agency. He then promised to create an office space for the agency immediately .
The Executive Chairman said people need to understand that a whole lots of learning should be done. He thereby said Ikoyi-Obalende LCDA will continue to educate her people from time to time on Consumer Rights
According to the Executive Chairman, he said people will not undermine the agency if necessary actions are taken immediately.
He added that partnering with the agency will be easy and convenient for his LCDA. Because Ikoyi-Obalende LCDA has adopted the pertnership style eg (SDG) which has added great value to the life of the people of Ikoyi-Obalende LCDA
