Lagos State has sought the collaboration of corporate organisations for the sustenance of infrastructural development in its riverine and rural communities.
Commissioner for Local Government and Community Affairs Wale Ahmed spoke at a stakeholders meeting: ‘Meeting 2022 Corporate Social Responsibility Budgets to the Needs of Lagos State Communities’.
The programme was to galvanise Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives to improve social welfare in communities, and set them on the path of modernity and progress.
The commissioner noted that the Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration, through its THEMES Agenda, has prioritised and sustained infrastructural development.
“This is visible in the road network upgrade and inter-connectivity, security of businesses, lives and properties, street lighting projects, market rehabilitation, modernisation of industrial areas and central business districts, flexible and liberalised land and property acquisition process, among others, all aimed at the ease of doing business,” he noted.
Ahmed said the state had enjoyed a steady flow of CSR initiatives from responsive and responsible concerns.
He, however, noted that the government seeks a continuity of these gestures, hence it is exploring areas of assistance, to get the communities working better and faster.
The commissioner urged participants to partner the government to improve the city landscape by adopting community projects as major CSR initiatives.
Special Adviser to the governor on Community Affairs Babatunde Jimoh said the programme would encourage organisations to channel CSR budgets to needs and strategically engender social and economic development.
Former Commissioner for Information and Strategy Kehinde Bamigbetan spoke in similar vein.
Chairman of Lagos State Community Development Association Council (LSCDAC) Alhaji Azeez Amusat implored corporate organisations to consolidate the government’s efforts, as well as the CDACs, in provision of facilities and infrastructure by adopting some projects to make living convenient for communities.
He promised that every CSR project executed would be jealously guarded and meticulously used.
