…AS COURT SENTENCES MAN TO LIFE IMPRISONMENT FOR DEFILING 3-YEAR-OLD GIRL
The Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court sitting in Ikeja on Tuesday, 25th January, 2022, sentenced one Sunday Oyedele to life imprisonment with no option of fine, for the offence of Defilement of a child contrary to Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Hon. Justice Abiola Soladoye, who gave the judgment, also ordered that Oyedele’s name be entered into the Lagos State Sex Offenders Register.
The Defendant was arraigned before the Court on the 29th of April 2019, on a one-count charge of Defilement of a Child and pleaded not guilty to the Charge.
The Directorate of Public Prosecutions called (3) three witnesses, who testified that the Defendant took the victim, a 3(three) year old child, into his room, where he had unlawful sexual intercourse with her.
Hon. Justice Soladoye held that the Prosecution proved its case beyond reasonable doubt and thereby convicted and sentenced the Defendant accordingly.
