Lagos Police apprehends notorious armed robber responsible for Allen Avenue gold robbery attack

The Lagos State Police Command operatives have arrested John Samuel, 28, a notorious armed robber, hired assassin, and murderer from Akwa Ibom State, at his Epe hideout. 

The Lagos State Police Command operatives have arrested John Samuel, 28, a notorious armed robber, hired assassin, and murderer from Akwa Ibom State, at his Epe hideout. 

The suspect, who was released from prison on 18/08/2025, was caught on CCTV firing at and wounding businessman Gbenga Obama, and stealing his expensive gold necklace and other valuables in broad daylight at Gbajobi Street, Allen Avenue, Ikeja.

John Samuel, a former convict, has a history of violent crimes, including armed robbery, assassination, and murder. He was released recently after serving a six-year prison term for the capital offense of armed robbery.

Upon his release from prison, he returned to criminal activity with escalated ferocity, gaining notoriety for shooting victims before depriving them of their valuables.

CCTV footage of the 18th August 2025 incident has been retrieved, clearly showing the suspect firing at the victim with an English pistol before stealing his gold necklace jewelry. The suspect’s accomplice waited on a motorcycle to facilitate their escape. The victim, who sustained serious gunshot wounds during the attack, has since been treated and discharged.

Samuel John, the suspect, admitted to selling the stolen jewelry for ₦4 million, a price significantly lower than its real cost.

The Lagos State Police Command is currently intensifying efforts to apprehend other members of his gang and bring them to justice. They will all face prosecution upon completion of the investigation.

The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olohudare Jimoh, praised the gallantry and commitment of the operatives that led to the successful arrest of this vicious and notorious suspect. He assured Lagosians that discreet investigation is ongoing into the case

The Lagos State Police Command reiterates its pledge to uphold the safety and security of all residents, and hereby assures them of the freedom to engage in lawful pursuits without fear of intimidation or harassment.

The Command warns potential criminals that Lagos State will not provide a sanctuary for illicit behavior.
