Lagos State Government, in collaboration with the International Association of Research Scholars and Administrators (IARSA), has launched two groundbreaking academies aimed at propelling research and innovation in the State. 

The event, held recently at the Public Service Staff Development Centre (PSSDC), Magodo, also witnessed the induction of over 40 new members into IARSA.

Speaking at the event, the Honourable Commissioner for Establishments and Training, Mr. Afolabi Ayantayo stated that, the newly launched academies – the Centre for Educational Planning, Economics & Research Development and the Academy of Innovative Research, Science & Technological Development – mark a significant step towards strengthening research capabilities in Lagos State which will drive innovation and support the State’s development goals.

Ayantayo commended IARSA and the PSSDC for their leadership roles in research and innovation while highlighting the importance of research in creating an effective and efficient service delivery.

The Director-General, Lagos State Public Service Staff Development Centre, Mr. Adekunmilola Adio-Moses described the collaboration between the PSSDC and IARSA as a catalyst for fostering a culture of research excellence and strategic thinking within the public service.

He added that the initiative aims to empower employees to thrive for excellence in their respective fields while contributing to the state’s economic and social progress. He said that the induction of PSSDC staff into IARSA signified the State’s Commitment to a professional and strategic partnership for the State’s advancement.

He highlighted the gains of the collaboration to include promoting advanced research methods, knowledge sharing, and global networking. The partnership, he said, aimed to drive transformative change and sustainable development in Lagos State and beyond.

Meanwhile, the President of IARSA, Prof. Ogunsakin Akin expressed the organisation’s vision to be a leading force in research and development, collaborating with government, academia, and the private sector to advance innovation. He applauded the support of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and other Lagos State officials for their commitment to the success of the event.

Mr. Ogunsakin, on behalf of the association, expressed his gratitude to all the parties involved, adding that the collaboration signals a renewed focus on research and innovation in Lagos State while paving the way for a brighter future driven by knowledge and discovery. He, therefore, urged the newly inducted members to actively participate in research endeavours that will benefit Lagos State and Nigeria as a whole.

The event witnessed the conferment of honorary fellows on the Honourable Commissioner of the Ministry of Establishments and Training, Mr. Afolabi Ayantayo; Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs. Toke Benson-Awoyinka and Permanent Secretary, Public Service Office, Mrs. Sunkanmi Oyegbola.
