Lagos inaugurates committee to bring sanity to ports’ access roads

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has inaugurated the Lagos State Trucks and Cargo Operation to bring sanity to ports’ access roads.

The inauguration was presided over by an assistant director in the Ministry of Transportation, Mr. Tiamiyu Oluwatosin, who urged the committee to adhere strictly to the work guidelines of the state government and the ministry of transportation.

“The government felt it was time to resolve the crisis and move the industry forward. There are cases of extortion and hoodlums harassing truck drivers on the road. I want this committee to sit down with the board of trustees to fashion a way to do things in an appropriate way.”

He added that the committee was inaugurated to solve the problem of truckers in the state and the success of the committee will depend on the cooperation of the association’s members.

He charged the newly inaugurated committee to handle their duties with civility to overcome the lingering crisis in the sector.

“The state government and the ministry of transportation will render necessary assistance to carry out this task.”

The chairman of the newly inaugurated committee, Alhaji Lukman Shittu, commended Lagos State government and the ministry of transportation for constituting the committee.

Patron of the committee, Chief Remi Ogungbemi, said elders in the trucking sector of the maritime industry are highly excited to witness the historical event, considered as the best of its kind.

He encouraged every trucker to render adequate support by obeying traffic rules and regulations guiding truck movement into the ports, which is the only way the working environment can be safer and more pleasant.

“We are using this occasion to beseech every trucker irrespective of our individual affiliate to consider this inauguration as a victory for all of us and allow today’s occasion to be binding cord of unification void of rancour and acrimony.”
