Lagos-Ibadan Expressway ready mid-September – Works Minister

The Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, has given a new date for the completion of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway project. It is now scheduled for mid-September.

This is coming after a series of delays along the corridor, with construction work ongoing on the last stretch of both sides of the expressway.
The minister said this on Tuesday during a visit to the sites of completed and ongoing Federal Government projects in Lagos State.

Years after reconstruction commenced on the ever-busy Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, work is ongoing on the last stretch of both sides after several missed deadlines.

The newly-appointed minister started his inspection tour at outer Marina Road located on Victoria Island, a project constructed under the SUKUK financing option by the FG.

The former governor of Ebonyi State later moved to the newly rehabilitated Eko Bridge before proceeding to Ijora Olopa, the Lagoon section of Eko Bridge and Apapa.

Umahi was then briefed by officials of the ministry of works and contractors handling different projects on that axis of Lagos state.

Meanwhile, Umahi recently said that roads constructed while he was the Ebonyi state governor would last 50 years without maintenance.

Umahi, who was sworn in, among 44 other Ministers, last week Monday, stated this on Thursday in an interview with Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily.

According to him, roads in the country should be constructed according to Nigeria’s temperature and also quality should be looked at at all times.
