Lagos State Head of Service, Mr. Hakeem Muri-Okunola has lauded the contributions of Nurses to qualitative healthcare delivery in Lagos State, saying that Nurses are critical stakeholders in the health sector and their contributions cannot be overemphasised.

The Head of Service gave the commendation at the Year 2023 Lagos Nurses Week Conference, organised by the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) in Lagos on Tuesday.

He said that the State Government recognises the contributions of professional Nurses to the attainment of a healthy State and as such remains committed to providing an atmosphere suitable for professional nurses to operate and contribute their quota to the overall wellbeing of Lagos residents.

Muri-Okunola, represented at the event by the Permanent Secretary of Health District III, Dr. Monsurat Adeleke, stated that the annual celebration has become a reputable platform for critically analysing trends within the medical practice, especially as it concerns Nurses, with the objectives of coming up with intellectually-engaging and robust ideas that will translate into development and progress needed for the health sector.

The Head of Service said that the theme for this year’s celebration: “Our Nurses. Our Future” is apt, as it brings to the fore, the importance of the nursing profession as well as the need to value their contributions to fully address global health challenges and improve the health of the teeming population.

He advised all nurses, midwives and health workers that their primary responsibility is to continue to uphold the ethics of the respected profession and strictly adhere to best practices in the overall interest of everyone.

In his words: “Let me emphasise that we must understand that we have been chosen to render a special service to humanity. Therefore, I charge you all to see this profession as an opportunity to make a positive difference and actively participate in saving lives.

“It is quite evident that the present administration of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu is passionate about the health and wellbeing of residents of Lagos State, as it is a key component of the developmental agenda for the State. All healthcare workers are important to the State Government and will continue to receive maximum attention”, he added.
