The Lagos State Government has concluded a three-day training programme for newly engaged Central Business Districts (CBD), Enforcement Officers for effective and efficient service delivery.
Speaking at the closing ceremony and passing out parade of the 40 Ad-hoc staff recently engaged by the State Government to enforce traffic and environmental rules within the Ikeja Central Business Districts, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Central Business Districts, Mr. Olugbenga Oyerinde, represented by the Director of Administration and Human Resources, Mr. Babatunde Onafowokan re-echoed the importance the State Government placed on training and retraining of its workforce.
He tasked the newly engaged staff to be good ambassadors of the Lagos State Government and be courteous to the motoring public as well as residents and business owners within the business districts.
In his words: “As you are passing out today, the uniform you are wearing is not a license for extortion or to be unruly to the public, be courteous and respectful, show good character and integrity which Lagos State stands for and shun all forms of corruption”.
Oyerinde disclosed that the essence of the programme was to train enforcement officers on international best practices in order to ensure effective management of traffic and enforcement of environmental laws within the business districts of the State.
The Special Adviser averred that the newly trained officers are the first set of an enforcement unit that will implement traffic and environment rules within the Ikeja Business District, noting that the Ikeja Business District, being an elite business zone, deserves well trained and courteous officers who will enforce traffic and environmental laws.
The 40 enforcement officers were trained by the Lagos State Law Enforcement Institute on the rudiments of law and its enforcement, as well as on the use of body cameras for effective execution of their duties.
