The Lagos State Government has dismissed reports alleging that ₦4.2 billion was earmarked in the 2026 budget for the purchase of office furniture and 30 microphones for the Office of the Deputy Governor, describing the claim as a misinterpretation of the approved capital estimates.

The Lagos State Government has dismissed reports alleging that ₦4.2 billion was earmarked in the 2026 budget for the purchase of office furniture and 30 microphones for the Office of the Deputy Governor, describing the claim as a misinterpretation of the approved capital estimates.

In a clarification issued on Friday, the government stated that the total capital allocation for the Office of the Deputy Governor in the 2026 fiscal year stands at ₦4,247,816,006. According to the statement, the figure was erroneously portrayed as a provision solely for furniture and audio equipment.

The government explained that ₦4,077,816,006 of the allocation is designated for the reconstruction of the Round House complex — a six-storey facility accommodating more than 50 offices. The scope of work includes structural upgrades, retrofitting, and the installation of alternative energy infrastructure.

It added that the balance of ₦170 million covers the procurement of office equipment, furniture and fittings, as well as other capital items.

The state government noted that relevant sections of the budget master sheet have been made available for public scrutiny to promote transparency.

Reaffirming its commitment to fiscal discipline and due process, the government urged stakeholders and media organisations to verify budgetary information through appropriate channels to ensure accurate reporting.

It reiterated its dedication to prudent resource management and expressed regret over any misunderstanding arising from the classification of the budget items.
