The Lagos APPEALS Project Coordination Office organised a forum on Agricultural Insurance and Risk Management for the project beneficiaries and relevant stakeholders in the Agricultural sector.

The aim of the meeting was to sensitise and encourage APPEALS Project beneficiaries to engage insurance companies and inculcate insurance culture and risk management in their various agribusinesses.

Facilitators at the forum on technical presentations were representatives from insurance companies such as; Nigeria Incentive-based Risk Sharing System for Agricultural Lending (NIRSAL), Nigerian Agricultural Insurance Corporation (NAIC), Linkage Assurance PLC, and First Adequate Benefit Insurance Broker.

An interactive session on agricultural policies & products as well as need to expand insurance coverage of small-medium scale farmers in relation to business development and risk management were extensively discussed at the event.

The State Project Coordinator (SPC), Mrs Oluranti Sageo-Oviebo in her good will message at the event stated that the forum was organised to create an enabling environment for insurance and farmers’ smooth interface with the aim of motivating farmers on risk management, in order to mitigate against uncertainty such as vagaries of weather, prices and soon.

She advised farmers not to shy away from insurance policies as this will ensure stability in income and protect them against unforeseen losses.

The forum was organised by Lagos APPEALS project as part of the effort to ensure market development and linkage to business services.
