LAGOS — The Lagos State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced the expulsion of Chief Ganiyu Kolawole Egunjobi and Mr. Azeez Yusuf, citing alleged anti-party activities, disloyalty and conduct considered contrary to the party’s rules and discipline.
In a statement dated September 23, 2026, signed by the State Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, the Lagos APC said the two former members had contested the party’s 2026 Lagos State House of Assembly nomination primaries for Agege Constituency I and Agege Constituency II, respectively, but failed to secure the party’s tickets.
According to the party, rather than accept the outcome of the internal nomination process or pursue available avenues of redress, Egunjobi and Yusuf subsequently obtained tickets to contest under another political platform during the same electoral cycle.
The Lagos APC described the development as a breach of party loyalty and an act of anti-party activity, adding that their subsequent resignations from the APC were viewed by the party as a belated attempt to avoid the consequences of their actions.
The party stressed that membership of the APC could not be treated as a temporary political affiliation to be abandoned after an unsuccessful primary election.
“Members are free to aspire to elective office, but such aspirations must be pursued within the framework of the Party’s constitution and applicable electoral laws,” the statement said.
The APC further stated that members who lose internal contests are expected to accept the outcome or pursue legitimate avenues of redress provided by the party and the law, rather than undermine the organisation by seeking an alternative platform within the same electoral cycle.
The Lagos chapter said it had consequently invoked Article 9(5)(II) of the APC Constitution (as amended in 2022) in taking disciplinary action against the two former members.
The party also referenced the 2026 electoral framework, noting the need for political parties and actors to comply with the Electoral Act 2026 and relevant regulations governing the electoral process.
The Lagos APC therefore declared that Egunjobi and Yusuf are no longer members of the All Progressives Congress.
It further warned that neither individual is authorised to speak for, represent, negotiate on behalf of, or transact any official business with any person, organisation or institution in the name of the Lagos State APC or the APC.
The party urged its members, supporters, stakeholders and the general public to take note of the development and refrain from dealing with either individual as a representative or authorised agent of the APC.
The statement reaffirmed the party’s commitment to internal democracy, discipline, loyalty and adherence to its rules as it prepares for the forthcoming elections.
“The APC is a Party of rules. Its tickets are contested, its decisions are respected, and its integrity will be protected,” the statement declared.
The Lagos APC said it would continue to take steps it considers necessary to preserve the discipline, cohesion and credibility of the party.
