Lagos APC to PDP: Stop unleashing violence

The Lagos State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed recent remarks by Bello Mohammed Turaki of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who asserted that the opposition party was preparing to “return power to Nigerians.”

In a statement issued on Tuesday by the party’s spokesman, Mogaji (Hon.) Seye Oladejo, the Lagos APC described Turaki’s comments as misguided, arguing that the PDP lacks the internal unity and organisational strength needed to make such declarations.

The APC said Turaki, whom it described as a “factional chairman of a divided PDP,” should focus on resolving leadership disputes within the party before making claims about national leadership. According to the ruling party, Turaki’s comments “ignore the political reality of a broken, leaderless opposition platform.”

The statement argued that the PDP must first establish legitimacy within its ranks, noting that the party is battling multiple internal crises, court rulings, and competing factions.

PDP’s Past Performance Highlighted

The Lagos APC also criticised the PDP’s record during its 16 years in power, alleging mismanagement of national resources, infrastructure decay, insecurity, and widespread corruption. The party said these shortcomings contributed to the PDP’s electoral defeats in 2015, 2019, and 2023.

“Nigerians reclaimed power when they voted the PDP out,” the statement said, noting that repeated electoral outcomes reflect a sustained rejection of the opposition party at the federal level.

APC Says PDP Not Positioned for National Leadership

According to the APC, the PDP’s ongoing internal disputes undermine any claims to national leadership readiness. The party added that a political organisation grappling with instability “cannot convincingly present itself as an alternative for national governance.”

The statement further noted that while the APC-led administration under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is pursuing economic reforms, infrastructure development, security restructuring, and institutional realignment, the PDP is “preoccupied with public statements lacking substance.”

Conclusion

The Lagos APC urged the PDP to focus on restoring unity and credibility within its structure before making claims about returning power to Nigerians. The party maintained that governance requires stability and coherence—qualities it believes the PDP currently lacks.
