Lagos APC Commends NELFUND for Extending Loan Scheme to Vocational Institutions

The Lagos State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has lauded the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) for expanding its student loan programme to cover vocational and technical training institutions across the country.

The Lagos State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has lauded the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) for expanding its student loan programme to cover vocational and technical training institutions across the country.

In a statement issued on Monday, the party described the move as a significant milestone in the implementation of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, noting that it addresses long-standing gaps in Nigeria’s education and skills development landscape.

According to the Lagos APC, the initiative marks a strategic shift towards empowering millions of young Nigerians whose career paths depend on practical skills rather than traditional academic routes. Sectors such as engineering trades, digital technology, construction, creative industries, agriculture, and manufacturing are expected to benefit from the broadened access to training finance.

The party noted that for many years, the national system tended to prioritise certificates over competence, leaving youths seeking vocational education with limited support. It added that the NELFUND expansion would remove financial barriers, promote skills acquisition, and strengthen Nigeria’s labour force.

“The decision by NELFUND represents a direct investment in the productive energy of Nigerian youths,” the statement read. “It has the potential to boost job creation, stimulate innovation, reduce unemployment, and significantly expand the country’s pool of skilled workers.”

The Lagos APC stated that the state stands to benefit immensely from the development, given its concentration of technology hubs, creative districts, industrial clusters, and MSME corridors. The party urged youths in Lagos and across the country to take advantage of the opportunity to acquire globally competitive skills.

Commending NELFUND’s management for what it called “a forward-looking and inclusive policy,” the party reiterated its support for President Tinubu’s vision aimed at expanding opportunities for young Nigerians and strengthening national development.

The statement was signed by the Lagos APC Publicity Secretary, Mogaji (Hon.) Oluseye Olaniran Oladejo, dated November 17, 2025
