The Lagos State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has reacted to the recent defection of Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso with caution, describing it as an overhyped political move lacking substance.
In a statement issued on March 31 by the Lagos APC Spokesman, Mogaji (Hon.) Seye Oladejo, the party noted that while some have portrayed the development as a major political shift, a closer look suggests it is driven more by personal ambition than by ideology or national interest.
According to the APC, Senator Kwankwaso has consistently indicated that any defection on his part would be tied to securing either a presidential or vice-presidential ticket. This, the party argued, underscores that the move is a calculated pursuit of personal advancement rather than a commitment to meaningful governance.
The statement further downplayed the strength of the Kwankwasiyya movement, describing it as significantly weakened following the exit of key stakeholders, including the Kano State Governor and other influential figures. The party maintained that a political structure unable to retain its core base cannot be positioned as a decisive national force.
The Lagos APC emphasized that political relevance should not be measured by past titles or name recognition, but by the ability to build enduring alliances, inspire confidence, and deliver tangible results.
Reaffirming its stance, the party stressed its commitment to principled and disciplined politics, rejecting what it described as opportunistic defections and self-serving maneuvers that place individual ambition above collective progress.
It concluded that Kwankwaso’s defection represents more of a distraction than a strategic gain, urging Nigerians to focus on leadership anchored on stability, sincerity, and genuine national development.
