President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has described Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso as a true ally within the progressive fold, despite his exit from the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a goodwill message marking Kwankwaso’s 69th birthday, President Tinubu extolled the former Kano State Governor for his steadfast commitment to progressive ideals and his enduring contributions to national development.
According to a statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Tinubu joined Kwankwaso’s family, friends, and associates in celebrating the milestone, acknowledging his “invaluable services” to Nigeria in various leadership capacities.
The President noted that Kwankwaso’s record of public service — from his days as Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives in the aborted Third Republic, to serving two terms as Governor of Kano State, Minister of Defence, and Senator representing Kano Central — has left a lasting imprint on the nation’s political and developmental landscape.
Tinubu further praised Kwankwaso’s enduring popularity in the North, particularly in Kano, describing it as a reflection of his pro-people politics reminiscent of the late Mallam Aminu Kano and Alhaji Abubakar Rimi.
“Senator Kwankwaso remains a friend and ally with whom I served in the National Assembly in 1992 and later as governors in 1999. We also worked together in founding the All Progressives Congress. Although he later left the APC to establish the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), it is noteworthy that he remains within the progressive fold,” the President stated.
President Tinubu wished the former governor good health, strength, and many more years of impactful service to the nation.
