Residents of Igboho in Oyo State erupted in celebration after a kidnapped family, including a pregnant woman, her children, and a sibling, reportedly regained their freedom following a two-hour ultimatum issued by Yoruba nation activist, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho.
Videos circulating on social media captured scenes of jubilation as residents flooded the streets, singing, dancing, and welcoming the victims back to the community.
The reported release came shortly after Sunday Igboho issued a stern warning to suspected Fulani community leaders in the area over the growing cases of kidnapping and insecurity affecting residents.
In an earlier viral video, the activist was seen addressing community representatives and traditional rulers, expressing outrage over alleged incidents of abduction and killings linked to criminal elements operating within the area.
He specifically referenced the case of a pregnant woman who was reportedly kidnapped alongside members of her family, as well as an incident in which a ransom bearer was allegedly killed despite efforts to secure the victims’ release.
“The person who brought the ransom, you still killed him and spared only one person,” Igboho said while condemning the alleged acts and warning that such incidents must not continue.
The activist subsequently issued a two-hour ultimatum demanding the release of all kidnapped victims, noting that he had exercised restraint out of respect for appeals made by traditional rulers and community leaders.
“I am Sunday Igboho. I am calm because my fathers asked me to be calm with you. Let this be the last time such a thing will happen,” he declared.
He further warned that failure to release the victims would attract decisive action, including efforts to enter and flush out suspected criminal hideouts linked to the kidnappings.
Following the expiration of the ultimatum, videos emerged showing jubilant residents celebrating what was described as the release of the abducted family. However, as of the time of filing this report, authorities had yet to officially confirm the circumstances surrounding the victims’ release.
